KATHMANDU: The Government of Nepal, Confederation of Banks and Financial Institutions Nepal (CBFIN) and Nepal Business Institute will jointly organise Nepal Business Summit 2023 in Kathmandu, on May 7.
Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal will be the chief guest who will address the summit to be held on coming Sunday, organisers informed at a press meet held in the capital recently. CBFIN President Pawan Kumar Golyan said that the business summit is being held with a view to focus on major potential sectors of Nepal for sustainable economy.
Moreover, there are various problems and challenges being faced by various sectors of the economy which will be identified along with solutions, said CBFIN President Golyan at the press meet. "There is also a need to remove confusion regarding BFIs for industrialists, businesspersons and other borrowers, and to bridge the gaps between BFIs and industrialists/borrowers as it will remove confusion about BFIs and their ongoing performance," he said. Golyan emphasized that the state should prioritise sectors like agriculture, tourism, energy and export sectors/import substitution to sustain the economy.
Addressing the press meet, Executive Chairman of Nepal Business Institute, Bishal Gaire, said the summit will promote and protest large industries, encourage small, medium and startup enterprises, and explore wrong perceptions about BFIs among the related stakeholders.
The summit will be a useful platform to resolve policy and behavioural problems faced by entrepreneurs and bring in more investment. The organiser also informed that the aim of the summit is to promote exports and to support the construction of a self-sufficient economy through partnership and investment.
CBFIN Senior Vice President Bhoj Bahadur Shah expressed his hope that the business summit would promote entrepreneurship and boost the national economy while Vice President Rajesh Upadhyay opined that the summit between the government and the private sector will prepare a vision document for the economy and that the manifesto issued by it in the future will be included in the government's policies and programs.
Summit's inaugural function, will be chaired by CBFIN President Golyan.
Other dignitaries to attend the summit include Minister for Finance Prakash Sharan Mahat; Adviser to the Asia Pacific Vice President of the International Finance Corporation (IFC) of the World Bank Group Qamar Saleem; Senior Industrialist and House of Representatives (HoR) member Binod Kumar Chaudhary; Senior economist and HoR member Swarnim Wagle; Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) Governor Maha Prasad Adhikari; and Secretary of Ministry of Industry Madhu Kumar Marasini.
Similarly, Country Director of World Bank Faris Hadad-Zervos; Former President of FNCCI, Bhawani Rana; Former President of CNI Haribhakta Sharma; President of Management Association Nepal, Upendra Prasad Poudel; President of Nepal Bankers Association, Sunil KC; Chairman of World Link, Dilip Aggarwal; Managing Director of Dolma Organisation, Joseph Silvanus; Director General of Daraz Nepal, Aanchal Kunwar; ambassadors of various countries, economists, entrepreneurs, businessmen, secretaries and joint secretaries of various ministries will also take part in various sessions of the summit.
The summit will help revive confidence among investors in the country to increase domestic production, promote consumption and export, create employment opportunities, expand investment with the identification of potential areas of investment, attracts youth and women to enterprises/businesses, increase investment in innovative sectors with the upgrading of domestic, small and medium industries. It is also expected that there will be a high level of networking by expanding the relationship between the three levels of government, private sector, and diplomatic missions for the sustainable promotion of the sector.
Director General of CBFIN, Gopal Prasad Tiwari, informed at the meeting in the Business Summit, participants from various sectors will be presented in a big number as it will turn out very beneficial for the entrepreneurs and banks and financial institutions/youth entrepreneurs. Economic revival is key to the current difficulties, said Tiwari stressing that the sectors which give huge employment and help the country to increase the tax base should be focused on sustainable economy.
Mr Mahendra Goyal, Executive committee member of CBFIN and NBI director Dharmaraj Regmi also attended the press meeting.
