Nepal Italy Chamber of Commerce and Industries holds 9th AGM

KATHMANDU: Nepal Italy Chamber of Commerce & Industries (NICCI) held its ninth annual general meeting (AGM) in Kathmandu, on Thursday. The AGM was organised to expand the investment and tourism sectors by further organising the growing business between Nepal and Italy. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport, Narayan Kaji Shrestha, representatives of Nepal Italy Chamber of Commerce including Chairman Rajesh Kaji Shrestha and President Sanjay Agarwal and journalists were present in the programme. Nepal Italy Chamber of Commerce and Industry's Acting Chairman Dhruva Kumar Shrestha delivered the welcome speech at the AGM.  "We are grateful for Italy's contribution in the field of reconstruction of the cultural, material, and historical heritage of Nepal," he said in his speech and added, "We believe that this co-operation will remain as a long-lasting symbol of friendship between our two countries." Consular relations between Nepal and Italy have been established for almost six and a half decades. The two countries established diplomatic relations on August 31, 1959. During this time, the two countries' relationship has been smooth, and trade business has been significant. The Nepal Italy Chamber of Commerce was established to further strengthen the country’s economic relationship. [gallery columns="1" link="file" size="full" ids="34513,34515"] The programme recognised people and organisations that made significant contributions to the economies of  Nepal and Italy. Rajesh Kaji Shrestha received a special honour while Vinod Sagatani received recognition as the best importer between Nepal and Italy. Likewise, Raju Shrestha received a prize for being the best exporter of Nepali goods to Italy. The chamber recognised Sarbottam Lal Shrestha, Managing Director of Peace International Tour and Travels, for his contribution to the tourism industry in bringing the most visitors from Italy to Nepal. The Fire and Ice Pizzeria was awarded 'The Best Investor'. Either directly or indirectly, Italy has been helping Nepal with its development. The Italian government and people have increased their aid to Nepal, especially since the country's transition to democracy in 1990. Similarly to that, victims of the 2015 devastating earthquake received a sizable amount of Italian aid. By promoting bilateral trade, the chamber hopes to draw Italian investment and boost the number of Italian tourists visiting Nepal. Friendship, shared interests, and amity are the foundations of the relationship between Nepal and Italy, it was highlighted at the AGM.
Agrawal elected President of Nepal-Italy Chamber of Commerce and Industries Sanjay Agrawal has been elected President of Nepal-Italy Chamber of Commerce and Industries. The ninth annual general meeting of the chamber formed a 28-member executive committee under the chairmanship of Agrawal. Rajesh Kaji Shrestha has been elected Patron of the chamber, Dhruva Kumar Shrestha as Honorary Member, Navaraj Dhakal as Immediate Past President of the Executive Committee and Araniko Rajbhandari as Senior Vice President. Niraj Shrestha and Manoj Gyawali have been elected as vice presidents, Tirtha Bahadur Roka as General Secretary, Pawan Agrawal as Treasurer, and Romnath Ghimire and Manoj Shrestha Badel as secretaries. The new executive committee aims to take bilateral economic relations to a new height by promoting trade, investment and tourism between Nepal and Italy. READ ALSO:
