Nepal-Japan Joint Working Committee meet today

KATHMANDU: A meeting of Nepal-Japan Joint Working Committee is scheduled to be held today. The committee has been formed to facilitate Nepali youths to the Japanese labour market.

The meeting will be held under the leadership of Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security, Rajiv Pokhrel. Representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs will also attend the meeting.

Similarly, a Japanese delegation will be led by Assistant Deputy Secretary of the Japanese government, Chosumo Nakagawa, according to Joint Secretary at Labour Ministry, Dunduraj Ghimire. He said the meeting will discuss the whole gamut of issues relating to employment for Nepali citizens in Japan.

The first meeting of the committee was held virtually in November 2020. As per the meeting, some 850 Nepalis have been provided employment in the sectors of caregiving, agriculture, construction and restaurant in Japan.

A labour agreement was reached between Nepal and Japan on specified skill workers (SSW) in 2019.
