Nepal Rastra Bank conducts ceremony to mark 68th anniversary

KATHMANDU: Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) on Thursday conducted a ceremony to mark its 68th anniversary. As per the tradition of honouring one former governor of the central bank every year on the occasion, this year NRB honoured former governor Bijaya Nath Bhattarai. At the ceremony, NRB Governor Maha Prasad Adhikari presented a letter of appreciation to former Governor Bhattarai and offered him a shawl. Bhattarai was the central bank governor from January 31, 2005, to January 31, 2010. It has been a tradition to honour former governors in this manner as a token of appreciation for their contribution to the management of the economic, monetary and financial sectors of Nepal. The central bank introduced 'Nepal Rastra Bank Service Award' to honour five employees who have made a significant contribution to the dignity and reputation of the institution along with excellent performance. Accordingly, Ramnath Pandit was honoured with 'Nepal Rastra Bank Best Service Award' and received a cash prize of Rs 100,000. Likewise, Maniraj Shrestha, Yashodha Pokharel, Lal Kumar Subedi and Jhan Prasad Koirala received Rs 50,000 each. Nepal Rastra Bank also started honouring three banks and three remittance companies that brought the most remittances in the country. Himalayan Bank, Nepal SBI Bank and Global IME Bank received letters of appreciation for bringing in the most remittances. Similarly, IME, City Express Money Transfer and Prabhu Money Transfer were also provided with the certificate. In the monetary policy for the fiscal year 2022/23, it has been announced that this fiscal year will be celebrated as 'Digital Transaction Payment Promotion Year'. Accordingly, significant progress has been made in the country's digital payments field. The central bank also honoured two payment system operators — Nepal Clearing House and Fonepay Payment Service — that significantly contributed to the promotion of digital payment transactions. On the occasion, 19 employees of the central bank who completed 20 years of service were also given prizes. READ ALSO:
