KATHMANDU: NMB Bank has given financial literacy training to the vegetable farmers of Lalbandi Municipality in Sarlahi district.
Around 150 farmers attended the programme organised by the bank's Microfinance Department and Lalbandi Branch Office. The programme provided financial education on incentives to the farmers as well as savings, investments, various types of loans and various other services that can be availed from the Bank. The bank also held interactions with farmers and collected their suggestions
Sharad Poudel, Manager, Microfinance Department at NMB Bank, facilitated the programme while Arun Kumar Acharya, Head of Lalbandi Branch was the programme coordinator.
Lalbandi is considered one of the key areas for vegetable production. About 1,500 farmers in the area are directly involved in commercial vegetable farming. Vegetables produced in Lalbandi are supplied to various cities including Kathmandu, Pokhara, Biratnagar and Narayangadh. The bank believes that this program will have a positive impact on the overall economy by helping the farmers to become financially self-reliant.
‘The Banker Magazine’ of The Financial Times, London, has awarded NMB Bank with the prestigious Bank of the Year Asia 2021. The bank has also been awarded Bank of the Year in 2017, 2018, 2020 and 2021. NMB Bank is currently providing its services through 201 branches, 138 ATMs and 11 extension counters.
