KATHMANDU: Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) has made some proposals in order to reduce the consumption of petroleum products. Accordingly, it has proposed a quota system for fuel to be provided to two-wheelers and four-wheelers vehicles.
NOC, the state-owned trading enterprise that imports, stores and distributes petroleum products, which has been bearing huge losses in the sales of petroleum products, proposed that the two-wheelers be provided only up to 5 litres of fuel and 20 litres for four-wheelers at a time.
It has also proposed that the vehicles ply on the road on the basis of odd and even number plates except for those relating to essential services and public services. Another proposal is to announce a vehicle-free public holiday every Saturday in major cities, according to NOC spokesperson Binit Mani Upadhyay.
Proposals also include installing charging stations on the national highways and providing charge facilities for major cities for electric vehicles (EV) free of cost to promote the usage of EVs.
Determining suitable space for parking and for providing free charging facilities for both private and public EVs is also one of the proposals put forward by the NOC to cut down the increasing consumption of petroleum products.
The NOC has called for encouraging walking on short route instead of using vehicles for brief travels and operating vehicles used for ferrying goods in optimal capacity of the vehicles among others.
