Number of candidates between 35 to 50 years higher in local level polls

KATHMANDU: Adults comprise a significant number of candidates for various positions in the local level polls slated for May 13. There are a total of 145,010 candidates vying in the elections for a total of 35,221 posts at 753 local levels. According to the Election Commission, 76,162 candidates are between 35 to 50 years. Among them, 39,669 are males and 27,493 are females. The number of candidates between 21 to 35 years is 35,258, including 18,780 males and 16,478 females. Similarly, the number of candidates between 51 and 65 years is 37,054, including 26,515 males and 10,539 females. The number of candidates above 65 years is 5,527 including 4,350 males and 1,177 females. Of them, 3,238 candidates are contesting for the post of municipality mayor, 1,964 for the post of deputy mayor, 3,092 for the post of chairperson and 2,163 for the post of vice-chairperson of the rural municipality. Similarly, there are 32,496 candidates for the ward chair position, 53,173 for ward member post, 25,599 for women member and 23, 285 for dalit women member at the ward level.
