PM Deuba to solve disaster survivors’ problems soon

Kathmandu: Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has vowed to solve the problems of landslides and floods survivors by making a long-term plan. Torrential rains that battered the far west from Sunday have damaged property in various districts, destroying roads, houses, near-harvest paddy, livestock, as well as crops. PM Deuba on Thursday reached Dodhara Chandani Municipality in Kanchanpur district in course of the inspection of flood and landslide-hit areas in Sudurpaschim Province. During the inspection, PM Deuba said that he would begin making a perspective plan after reaching Kathmandu to address such problems. He said that relief would be provided to the flood and landslide survivors soon PM’s visiting team including Finance Minister Janardan Sharma, Tourism Minister Prem Bahadur Ale, former ministers Ramesh Lekhak, NP Saud and Bir Bahadur Balayar aerially inspected the devastations caused by the post-monsoon rains in Doti, Bajhang, Baitadi and Dadeldhura.


Post-monsoon death toll reaches 101; 40 go missing At least 101 people have been killed in floods and landslides triggered by torrential rain in different parts of the country. According to the Nepal Police, 60 people were killed in the landslide in province 1, one in Bagmati, seven in Karnali, 31 in Sudurpaschim Province and two in Lumbini. Likewise, 19 people injured in Province 1, four in Karnali and 17 in Sudurpaschim are being treated at local medical facilities. Photo courtesy: NA[/caption] Search is on for those who have gone missing, according to Central Police Spokesperson and Information Officer Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Basant Bahadur Kunwar. Likewise, 2,232 houses have been inundated due to the floods while 49 houses, eight cowsheds, six bridges and three government offices have been completely damaged. So far, 139 livestock have perished. A total of 1,177 families were displaced by the disaster, as of Thursday, October 21. Meanwhile, security personnel are working to evacuate the people at risk of floods and landslides in different districts to safe places and recovering properties with the coordination and cooperation of various agencies and locals. Efforts are also underway to remove landslide debris at various places, according to Police.
