PM directs NA to be alert owing to changes in security environment

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister and Defence Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has directed the concerned side to remain alert towards any possible effects on overall security sector due to minor changes in the international and regional security environment considering sensitive geopolitical instability of the country. Inaugurating a two-day 'Command Army Chief Coordination Meeting' at the Nepali Army Headquarters prior to Mahashivaratri and Army Day, PM Deuba cautioned the army command towards possible influence of international and regional security in the country's political, economic and social sectors. Expressing confidence that high quality and expert human resources will be produced in future through good management of the National Defence University, he lauded the Nepali Army for its contributions to the construction of various national roads including the Kathmandu-Tarai fast track and different national road corridors having strategic importance in country's economic development. Noting that Nepali Army has been successful in timely completion of road infrastructure projects of the country, PM Deuba pledged to not allow any resource gaps in the projects being executed by the Army. The Prime Minister expressed his commitment to creating an environment conducive to immediately implementing the 'Bunker to Barrack Programme' and also motivating all ranks and files of the NA. Prior to Mahashivaratri and Army Day, PM and Defence Minister Deuba extended best wishes to all army personnel at home and abroad for their happiness, peace, prosperity and good health, shared NA Directorate of Public Relations and Information. Likewise, Chief of Army Staff Prabhuram Sharma said the NA would discharge the constitution-stipulated responsibilities in any circumstances and is committed to fully complying with the directives of the Nepal government. "The Nepal Army will continually study, monitor and analyse the affairs associated with national security and stability and also always remain alert to overcome potential security challenges," he added. In the meeting, the chiefs of departments, directorate-general and directorate will deliver presentations on current status of the areas of their responsibility, work review and recommendations.
