
KATHMANDU: Sujan Oli has been elected President of the Society of Economic Journalists-Nepal (SEJON).
The 25th annual general meeting (AGM) of SEJON held in Kathmandu on Saturday formed a new executive committee under the leadership of Oli.
In the election held by the umbrella organisation of professional journalists working in the economic, business and financial sectors of Nepal, Oli mustered 99 votes against his competitor Shiromani Dhungana who garnered 96 votes.
Likewise, Binaya Banjara has been elected Vice President of SEJON. He mustered 135 votes against his rival Bhagwat Bhattrai who secured 115 votes.
Similarly, Bishwas Regmi has been unanimously elected General Secretary and Sovit Thapalia as Secretary. Thapalia mustered 106 votes.
The AGM elected Achut Puri as Treasurer.
Other elected members include Keshu Lamichhane who secured 188 votes, Hemanta Raj Joshi 179 votes, Mamata Thapa 156, Chhabi Raj Sapkota 128 and Basanta Raj Upreti 145.
Of 271 total votes, 252 votes were cast in the election.
