President Paudel attends main ceremony of Constitution Day

KATHMANDU: The main function committee hosted a special ceremony at the Army Pavilion in Tundikhel, Kathmandu on the occasion of Constitution Day-2080 today.

On the occasion, President Ramchandra Paudel attended the ceremony as a chief guest. Also present were Vice-President Ram Sahay Prasad Yadav, Chief Justice Bishwombhar Shrestha, National Assembly Chairperson Ganesh Prasad Timilsina, acting Prime Minister Purna Bahadur Khadka, Deputy Prime Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha, ministers, parliamentarians, constitutional bodies' chiefs and office-bearers, diplomatic mission chiefs and representatives, government employees and journalists.

A signifying banner reading 'Constitution Day, 2080' and a showering of flowers were displayed by the Nepali Army helicopter on the occasion. The helicopter with the banner marched around the Ring Road in Kathmandu.

Different contingents of the Nepali Army, Nepal Police and Armed Police Force performed march-past with cultural performances. Colourful balloons and pigeons as peace symbol, were released to mark the day.

The Kathmandu Metropolitan City, Lalitpur Metropolitan City and Bhaktapur Municipality presented cultural processions. Also on the occasion, a special constitution day edition of 'Nepal' - a bi-monthly publication of the Department of Information and Broadcast was released.

Acting Prime Minister Purna Bahadur Khadka addressed the ceremony.

Earlier today, in a message of best wishes and congratulations on the occasion of Constitution Day, President Paudel said equal access of all citizens to state-sponsored services and entitlements should be established and their social security be ensured in line with the Constitution.

Likewise, in a message on the occasion, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal said that the government is on a massive transformation drive to shift people's livelihood through the implementation of the Constitution.

He said the government has started a campaign to transform the federal democratic republic as the true state provision.
