
GALKOT, BAGLUNG: Three roads in Baglung Municipality will be tarmacked with the grant assistance of the World Bank.
The World Bank and the municipality signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for this project in 2020.
As per the agreement, the grant of Rs 580 million will be invested for infrastructure and social development and the municipality will spend the amount under these two headings.
The municipality has started works on tarmacking the three roads prioritising the upgrading of the roads under the physical infrastructure development.
The agreement is being implemented three years after the MoU signing and the municipality has started working on preparing a detailed project report (DPR) of these roads.
The roads will be tarmacked within two years, it is said.
The three selected roads will be widened to eight metres and 13 kilometres will be tarmacked.
The World Bank representatives have conducted a study of the three selected roads, according to Municipality Mayor Basanta Kumar Shrestha.
"A total of 17 municipalities in the country have received this grant. Baglung Municipality will utilise the grant in blacktopping of three roads which will contribute to the development of physical infrastructures of the town," Shrestha said.
According to him, three standard roads will be constructed within the municipality in one and a half years under the municipality's Urban Governance and Infrastructure Development Programme initiated three years ago.
The three roads selected for tarmacking are 8.6-kilometre road from Ward No 7, Mulpani to Titaure, 2.5-km road from Odarchaur to Dhodeni and the 1.5-km road from Ganesh Ghumti to Nirayagadh.
