Tamor corridor linking China, India opened for commute

ITAHARI: Tamor corridor constructed along the bank of Tamor River from Sunsari district to Taplejung district has been opened. The 314-kilometre-long roadway that links India and China via Nepal has yet to be tarmacked. However, the commute via the corridor has already started which has benefitted people. With the opening of the corridor, the travel time from Dharan in Sunsari to Pathibhara in Taplejung has now decreased by four hours. The opening of this faster track has inspired many to travel Pathibhara. ''It used to take more than 16 hours to reach Pathibhara from Dharan via Mechi Highway,'' said Basudev Baral, a tourism entrepreneur from Dharan who owns Sechha Adventure Park, Sechha Travels and Hotel Sechha. He added, ''The corridor has opened new avenues for more footfalls in Dharan and around.'' ''The track along Tamor river is much wider and visibly safer than Mechi highway,'' said Baral. However, the infrastructures need to be upgraded in a speedy way for all-weather commutation. ''This route, if utilised wisely, could be a game-changer project in eastern hills both in terms of tourism and investment,'' said Kushum Shrestha, the Province 1 Provincial Assembly Member who hails from Dhankuta district.
