KATHMANDU: Unilever has partnered with Nepali Army for the ‘Mountain Cleaning Campaign 2023’. The theme for this year's noble initiative is ‘An Endeavour to save the Himalayas’.
This is Unilever’s third collaboration for the national cleanup campaign to keep the Himalayas clean from waste. The multi-stakeholder programme is aimed at protecting the mountains and minimising the effects of climate change by cleaning up peaks. This year the aim will be to clean Mt Everest, Mt Lhotse, Mt Annapurna and Mt Baruntse and collect 35 Tonnes of garbage.
Transitioning to a circular economy approach is at the heart of Unilever’s Strategy for a waste-free world. Carelessness in waste disposal is devastating the beauty of the mountains and threatening the health of our planet.
Managing Director of Unilever Nepal, Amlan Mukherjee, stated, ‘Through this continued collaboration we aim to set a new record this year in the collection, segregation, and recycling of accumulated waste. Actions in service of Nepal by helping it sustain the pride for its peaks. Unilever couldn’t have found a better cause than to clean the mountains.”
Unilever is committed to improving the health of the planet. It aims to work hard to tackle plastic packaging waste, particularly through partnerships and collaborations that drive change beyond its operations. The ultimate aim is to create a circular economy system for waste management. “We are committed to making a sustainable living common place for everyone and will continuously engage in programmes like these in the coming days,” said Amlan Mukherjee.
