A A- A+
MUSIKOT: Karnali Beverages, a wine company in Aathbiskot Municipality of West Rukum district, is going to buy the kiwi fruit produced by local farmers. The wine company has come to rescue the Kiwi fruit farmers who had problems selling their produce despite growing it in abundance. The lack of road connectivity and faraway market were problems for the local farmers. The production of kiwi fruit had increased with many farmers joining the farming of the fruit but the market was difficult to find. Mayor of Aathbiskot Municipality, Ravi KC, said an agreement has been reached between the company and farmers to purchase Kiwi fruit at Rs 125 per kg. According to him, 142 quintals of kiwi have been produced in the municipality's wards 1, 2, 3, 10, 11 and 12. There are altogether 47 kiwi farmers involved in commercial farming in the municipality. After the local government emphasized kiwi fruit cultivation, the number of farmers cultivating kiwi in the municipality increased. The government distributed kiwi fruit seedlings to the farmers. Almost 2,100 kiwi fruit plants were planted in the municipality last year alone. Currently, the municipality estimates that around 1,500 kiwi plants are bearing fruit in the municipality. Similarly, the municipality is also going to give subsidies for transportation. Mayor KC said that the municipality will pay the fare for transporting kiwi fruit from the farmer's field to the company in Ward 12. Ganesh Shahi of ward 10 produces 25 quintals of kiwi annually. He had a lot of trouble selling kiwi fruit due to lack of transportation facilities.  He is however now happy that kiwi fruit will be consumed in the municipality itself along with a subsidy for transportation. Karnali Beverages is producing wine and varieties of fruit juices. By RSS READ ALSO:
