World Bank rep Pangestu meets Finance Minister Sharma

KATHMANDU: World Bank Managing Director of Development Policy and Partnerships, Mari Elka Pangestu, paid a courtesy call on Finance Minister Janardan Sharma today. During a meeting at the Ministry of Finance at 11:00 am on Sunday, Minister Sharma recalled the long-standing relationship and development partnership with the World Bank and praised its assistance. "The World Bank has been a reliable partner in Nepal's development efforts," he said. Minister Sharma thanked the World Bank for providing $122 million in financial assistance to cope with the aftermath of Covid 19. The World Bank's cooperation with Nepal began in 1969 with the financial assistance of $1.69 million. The World Bank has cooperated in 25 projects worth $3 billion until now. Minister Sharma said that some important projects are in the agreement stage while the current projects are very important and far-sighted. On the occasion, he informed that budget for the fiscal year 2022/23 focuses on building a self-reliant economy. He expressed his belief that the budget identified the economy as a departure point from imports to production, risk to macroeconomic stability and deprivation to inclusion. On the occasion, World Bank Managing Director expressed her pleasure that the budget was inclusive. On behalf of the World Bank, she committed to continuing to support Nepal's overall development system through financial assistance in the days to come. READ ALSO:
