[gallery columns="1" size="full" link="file" ids="28359,28360"] He is also currently showcasing his first solo museum exhibition at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (VMFA). “As we were thinking about the launch of our new 8848 Rye Vodka, we wanted to do something different and meaningful,” Abhishek Shrestha, Managing Director of Yeti Distillery said about the collaboration with Sherpa. “So we decided to use this opportunity to showcase an extraordinary Nepali artist and to bring attention to the evolving fine arts scene of our country.” About the artwork titled 'The Himalayan Spirit' he created for the collaboration, Sherpa said, “This work is a celebration of diverse cultures within our Himalayan region. I wanted to honour these different voices by merging their spirit with the peaks of the Himalayas, whose heights have become global symbols of Nepal.' “I have created an image of the Himalayas fused with motifs and colours of Thangka art. The merger depicts the collective Himalayan spirit as an amalgamation of our landscape and cultures. This image is mirrored upside down to show the merger dissolving away and hinting at the uncertain future of our heritages due to abrupt changes in global climate — both environmental and cultural,” added Sherpa. In addition to showcasing contemporary Nepali art, this collaboration also aims to help the local art scene by supporting students who are learning the traditional practices and techniques of Thangka painting. Reflecting on the collaboration and its broader aims Sherpa said, “This is a great opportunity as an artist to connect with a large and diverse public. I am happy that through this partnership, a portion of my fees is going to the educational programs of the Himalayan Art Initiative (HAI), a non-profit dedicated to preserving and uplifting Himalayan art in Nepal.” [caption id="attachment_28351" align="alignnone" width="1000"] “The Himalayan Spirit” artwork by Tsherin Sherpa (Images courtesy of YDPL)[/caption] “Tsherin’s work is admired worldwide and tells a story relatable to each of us. We also hope that this collaboration paves the way for the next generation of artists,” said Abhishek Shrestha. The new 8848 Rye Vodka is distilled five times in Poland with Polish rye. Produced using traditional Polish vodka-making techniques, the blend undergoes a unique distillation process. It is infused with naturally sourced water to impart a dry finish and provides notes of black pepper. “The 8848 Rye Vodka is a new product in the Nepali liquor industry. We are confident that the public will love the new taste”, says Abhishek Shrestha. The standalone 8848 Rye Vodka will be launched soon. The 8848 Rye Vodka X Tsherin Sherpa will be available in selected stores in Tsherin Sherpa was born in Kathmandu, Nepal, in 1968, and currently lives and works between California and Nepal. From the age of 13, he was trained in traditional Tibetan Thangka painting by his father, Master Urgen Dorje. In 1998, Sherpa immigrated to California, where he began to explore his style. Sherpa’s practice stems from his personal experiences within the Himalayan diaspora, as well as the nomadic history of Himalayan people. Sherpa has participated in numerous exhibitions in Asia, Europe, and the US, including representing Nepal for its inaugural participation at the Venice Biennale in 2022. His works are in major museum collections. In February 2022, the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts presented his first mid-career retrospective.
