Zonta Club of Kathmandu to organise walkathon on Nov 26

KATHMANDU: Zonta Club of Kathmandu is set to organise a walkathon, on Saturday, November 26. The theme of the walkathon is 'UNITE! Activism to End Violence Against Women and Girls Walkathon'. The gathering will take place at Hotel Annapurna at 8:30 am. The walkathon will begin at 9:00 am. The walk will take place towards Basantapur Durbar Square. The walkathon will end with a short programme featuring an educational skit at Basantapur Durbar Square. Zonta International is a leading global organisation of professionals, empowering women worldwide through service and advocacy. It envisions a world in which women’s rights are recognised as human rights and every woman is able to achieve her full potential. In such a world, women have access to all resources, are represented in decision-making positions on an equal basis with men and no women live in fear of violence. Under the umbrella of Zonta International, the Zonta Club of Kathmandu was established in 2012. It is a legally registered NGO in Kathmandu and has been working on the advancement of the status of women with the objective to improve the economy, education, health, and issues related to youth and violence against women at the local and national levels through service and advocacy. Zonta Club of Kathmandu is represented by 62 members from diverse backgrounds who are social activists, bankers, entrepreneurs, doctors, lawyers, architects, business leaders, and professionals. We implement our initiatives by conducting fundraising programs and through contributions from individuals and organisations. Zonta Club of Kathmandu is conducting several programs to raise awareness towards violence against women (VAW) - 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence this year which is observed all over the world from November 25 to December 10 annually. Meanwhile, the organisation has invited all to the walkathon. There will be the presence of celebrities and influencers like the European Union Ambassador to Nepal Nona Deprez, Anuradha Koirala, Anil Shah, Capt Vijay Lama, Parakram Rana among others. Several celebrities are also sharing unity with the Zonta Club of Kathmandu in the activism on VAW and GBV through video messages on their social media. READ ALSO:
