Accountability Lab to host 4-day hackathon to combat corruption

KATHMANDU: Accountability Lab is set to organise the second 'HackCorruption' event to identify and support talented individuals from the civic tech, central statistics Office (CSO), and activist arenas, to build innovative solutions to combat corruption. The South Asia regional hackathon will take place in Kathmandu from April 27 to 30. The hackathon is supported by the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs at the US Department of State, in partnership with the Center for International Private Enterprise (CIPE). Fifty changemakers from Bangladesh, India, Nepal, and Pakistan will work together in teams of five over a three-day period. Participants from Bangladesh, India, and Pakistan will receive fully-funded trips to participate in the event, according to the organiser. Five winning teams with the most promising ideas will receive additional financial support of up to $10,000, mentorship, and ongoing training to help them build out their ideas. They will also participate in a three-day intensive in-person boot camp in Kathmandu in June. Accountability Lab is a global translocal network that makes governance work for people by supporting active citizens, responsible leaders and accountable institutions. Technologists, civil society professionals, activists or students from Nepal, Bangladesh, India and Pakistan, who are interested in creating tools to fight corruption and make the country more transparent are encouraged to apply to participate in the HackCorruption event. Citizens and permanent residents of the US are not eligible to participate in the event. The applicant should be 18 years or older.
