Bagmati Province CM Pandey lays foundation stone for laboratory at AFU

CHITWAN: A foundation stone has been laid for constructing a Bio Safety Level (BSL) Plus Two laboratory at Agriculture and Forestry University (AFU) in Rampur, Chitwan district. Bagmati Province Chief Minister Rajendra Prasad Pandey laid the foundation stone for the construction of special laboratory on Wednesday. On the occasion, Chief Minister Pandey said the construction of high-tech level laboratory was not only for research and study but also as part of early preparedness to deal with pandemic such as Covid 19. The Chief Minister expressed his hope that the laboratory to be constructed outside Kathmandu valley for the first time would enhance the capacity and image of the university. CM Pandey shared that Bagmati Province government was making preparation for the establishment of Science and Technology University. "In order to carry out relevant research and study, the Science and Technology University will collaborate with the AFU," he said. Pandey pointed out the need for developing robust research institutions within the university. AFU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Punya Prasad Regmi urged three tiers of the governments to extend cooperation in expanding the research and outreach capacity of the University. Likewise, AFU Registrar Prof Dr Sharada Thapaliya said the lab will be constructed on the premises of the University at the cost of Rs 160 million with the financial assistance of Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development and Bagmati Province.
