Govt revokes two-day holiday rule

A A- A+
KATHMANDU: The government has revoked the provision to give regular public holidays two days a week on Saturdays and Sundays. A meeting of the Council of Ministers held on Monday decided to revoke the two-day weekend holiday rule, according to Minister for Federal Affairs and General Administration Rajendra Prasad Shrestha. He said the decision will come into effect from June 15. Earlier, the Cabinet meeting held on April 26 took a decision to give regular public holidays for two days a week from May 15. The decision remained on a trial as the Cabinet meeting agreed to set 9:30 am to 5:30 pm as office hours while the local levels had not completely followed the two-day holiday rule. However, the banks and financial institutions and various health institutions implemented the holiday rule. Meanwhile, advocates Ram Bahadur Shahi, Tej Kumar Lohiya, Santosh Bhandari and Trilok Bahadur Chand have filed a writ petition at the Supreme court against the government's decision to give a two-day holiday without making necessary preparation.   READ ALSO:
