KATHMANDU: The 26th and 27th annual general meetings (AGMs) of Nepal-India Chamber of Commerce & Industry (NICCI) unanimously elected president and nine executive members for the next two-year tenure.
In the AGMs held in Kathmandu on May 26, Shreejana Rana representing Hotel Annapurna was unanimously re-elected as President. Likewise, nine others were also unanimously elected as executive members of NICCI.
The elected members include Achyut Kharel (Samanantar Nirman Sewa), Arun KC, (ABC Multipurpose Trade), Hem Raj Dhakal, (IME Automotives), Harkirat Singh Bedi (Dabur Nepal), Kunal Kayal, (General Insurance Co Nepal), Mahesh Bahadur Basnet (Mandakini Hydropower), Ramesh Sharma (Sharma & Company), Saibal Ghosh (Berger Jenson & Nicholson Nepal), Sunil KC, (Asia Corporation),
[gallery columns="1" size="full" ids="24014"]Elected President of NICCI, Shreejana Rana, welcomed all the distinguished guests and informed the endeavours that NICCI has been putting in various forums for the promotion of foreign direct investment (FDI) from India and promotion of Nepal-India trade, transit, tourism and bilateral cooperation for the overall economic development of the country.
Chief Guest Minister of Foreign Affairs Narayan Khadka, inaugurated the AGM by lighting the butter lamp and expressed his happiness on the effort that has been made by NICCI from its establishment till date. Minister Khadka wished NICCI great success in the days ahead. He also highlighted the Nepal-India bilateral relations and the cooperation extended by Indian government to Nepal as important for the economic development of the country. The visit of prime ministers of both countries to each other's countries within a period of one month has been a benchmark as it has helped strengthen the bilateral relations to a new height, Minister Khadka said.
Special Guest Suresh Pravu, Member of Parliament and Former Minister of Railway, Power, Industry and Commerce, Government of India, also highlighted the importance of bilateral relations and the short term solution to the currently emerged economic crisis in the world. Prabhu further highlighted that remittance which is now the major source of foreign currency needs to be increased by skilling those outgoing human resources so that more foreign currency could be brought in the form of remittance which would help manage the current economic crisis in the short term.
Former Ambassador of India to Nepal, Ranjit Rae also expressed his happiness about the endeavours made by NICCI during his tenure as an ambassador to Nepal. He wished to see continuing those efforts in the coming days as well. Rae highlighted the area where Nepal need to focus, like, hydropower, tourism, agriculture, education, healthcare, IT sector and a few more others as they can change the scenario of economic development.
Prasanna Srivastava, Consular of Embassy of India; Shekhar Golchha, President of Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI); Vishnu Kumar Agarwal, President of Confederation of Nepalese Industries (CNI); Rajendra Malla, President of Nepal Chamber of Commerce (NCC) expressed their views and wished NICCI for future collaboration and success.
