Indian Embassy’s Chargé d’affaires calls on Gandaki CM Pokharel

KATHMANDU: Chargé d’affaires at the Indian Embassy, Namgya C Khampa, paid a courtesy call on Chief Minister of Gandaki Province, Krishna Chandra Nepali Pokharel. Khampa reached Pokhara to inaugurate and take stock of projects funded by the Indian Embassy in Kaski and Mustang districts. Gandaki Province's Finance Minister Ramji Prasad Baral, Minister for Law, communication and Provincial Assembly Affairs, Bindu Kumar Thapa, and chief secretary Rabi Lal Panth were also present on the occasion. In the meeting with Chargé d’affaires Khampa, CM Pokharel stressed the cooperation between Nepal and India for making the country prosperous. He said the province was ready to cooperate in the construction of the eight-kilometre-long tunnel in Dumkibas-Triveni section along Korala-Triveni road that links China with the southern neighbour. The Gandaki Province CM reminded Khampa about the commitment made by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to Nepal, to support in running medical college at GP Koirala National Centre for Respiratory Diseases in Shuklagandaki Municipality, Tanahun district. CM Pokharel opined that the two countries could also cooperate in the province's employment promotion, beautifying Pokhara, the tourism hub, and the conservation of Phewa Lake. He also expected support from the Indian government in building infrastructures in business zones after the Pokhara International Airport comes into operation. On the occasion, Chargé d’affaires Khampa said the Indian government was ready to cooperate for making Gandaki Province prosperous. As the Indian government has been assisting in building roads in the province, building tourist infrastructures and developing transport sector, initiatives can be taken to work on other projects if detailed reports are made available in this regard, Khampa said. On behalf of the Indian government, she committed to continuing with granting scholarships to Nepali students, providing buses to schools and colleges, and ambulances to hospitals and organisations. The Indian Embassy is working on a total of 52 projects in the country. Of the total projects, 11 are being carried out in Kaski district. READ ALSO:
