Third edition of Hydro Expo to be held in Kathmandu from April 1 to 3

KATHMANDU: The third edition of Himalayan Hydro Expo 2022 will be held at Bhrikuti Mandap Exhibition Hall in Kathmandu from April 1 to 3. Independent Power Producers’ Association, Nepal (IPPAN) and Expo & Event Mgmt Services will jointly organise the expo with the slogan "Marketing of Nepal's Hydropower". It was informed at a press conference that the expo will be organised with the coordination of Embassy of India in Nepal, the British Embassy and the Canadian High Commission as country partners. The expo will facilitate ​​mutual cooperation among the energy-related individuals and organisations of Nepal and India, According to IPPAN President Krishna Prasad Acharya. He said the expo would highlight the market expansion of hydropower as well as opportunities for cooperation in Indian investment. The organisers have expected that the expo would give a different dimension to the energy sector with the objective of accelerating the current state of energy production along with unprecedented activities in the hydropower and energy sector in Nepal and supporting the target of generating 15,000 MW of electricity in 10 years. The expo is being organised with the objective of informing about the latest technology of international standard related to hydro, gathering the stakeholders of hydro under one roof and discussing hydro development with different countries. The three-day expo will have more than 100 stalls. Hydropower promoters, producers, equipment suppliers, turbine manufacturers, investors, banks, insurance and various stalls related to new technology and construction in hydropower will be present at the expo. According to organisers, about 50% of the stalls will be from foreign individuals or organisations. New energy-related technologies, as well as live demonstrations of Hydro Power Robotham (Hydrocorn 2.0), Battle Robots and Hydro Power, will be special attractions at this year's expo. The world's first hydropower robotic competition — Hydrocon 2.0 — will feature robots working on hydropower, as well as robots assisting in tunnel checking and inspection. Ashish Garg, Vice-President of IPPAN, said rally of electric vehicles will also be a special attraction of the expo. He said the rally will play an important role in marketing electric vehicles and expanding the internal market of hydropower through it. Stating that special emphasis should be laid on the use of electric vehicles as well as electric stoves, he said that it would significantly contribute to the expansion of the internal market of hydropower. Bijay Sagar Pradhan, Managing Director of Expo & Event Mgmt Services, said, he is confident that the expo will help in adding new dimensions with the participation of stakeholders in the new technology in the context of lack of proper management of electricity. Also, Drone Hydropower Video Making Competition will be an attraction at the Expo. Information stalls on hydropower will also be set up and information on possible uses of modern technology in hydropower will be given at the expo. It is believed that the expo will be a source of information for all those interested in the sector, including hydropower investors, producers and engineers, and will contribute to the energy development of the nation.
