HoR passes government policies and programmes

KATHMANDU: The House of Representatives (HoR) has endorsed the government’s annual policies and programmes for the fiscal year 2023/24. The meeting of the HoR held on Saturday passed the policies and programmes by the majority. Earlier, the meeting had disapproved amendments received to the annual policies and programmes by the majority. Parliamentarians of opposition parties commented that the government’s policies and programmes failed to address agriculture, employment and corruption control. They said policies and programmes could not determine clear objectives and priorities. Parliamentarian Santosh Pariyar said the policies and programmes has not come up with concrete and strong measures for corruption control. Parliamentarian Buddhi Man Tamang termed the policy and programmes 'camel' noting that 'It has not set a goal and priorities'. Photo: RSS[/caption] On the occasion, parliamentarian Metmani Chaudhary said there was no need to protest the policies and programmes as he claimed it has included measures for economic restoration, assurance of good governance at all levels of government, simplification in service delivery and protection and preservation of national interests. Parliamentarian Seraj Ahmad Faruki demanded the rewriting of the government policies and programmes for it failing to pay attention to education, health and human rights of the people. He further noted that the government policy has not included a concrete programme to check the outflow of youths overseas for education and employment. Likewise, Member of Parliament Shanti Chaudhary demanded agriculture revolution decade to lay emphasis on agriculture sector. Parliamentarian Shiva Gywali recommended including programme to incentivise self-employment and micro-entrepreneurship. Parliament member Ganga Prasad Yadav stressed the need to resolve the problems of landless squatters. Likewise, lawmaker Sanju Sharma Ansari asked the government to recognise Muslim community schools as public schools. She also recommended the government bring special programmes for third-gender people. President Ramchandra Paudel presented the annual policies and programmes at the joint session of both HoR and National Assembly on May 19.
