Support of private sector necessary for development of country: Minister Rijal

KATHMANDU: Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies Ramesh Rijal has said that both the government and the private sector should be equally responsible for solving the problems in the economy. Addressing the 57th annual general meeting (AGM) of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) held in Kathmandu, Minister Rijal said the government will move forward hand in hand with the private sector to lead the country to prosperity. "This country cannot achieve economic prosperity without the support of private sector. For this, the government is ready to support in everything," said Minister Rijal. He said the government is in the process of identifying the problems of industrialists. "The government is serious about the current problems," he said and urged the private sector not to be discouraged. The country is going through challenging times, the economic situation is not so good and also there is a big difference in imports and exports while businesspersons are discouraged, he said and argued that the government has heeded this complaint. According to Rijal, the current problems in the economy did not come all at once but were created due to the problems seen in the global economy such as the Covid pandemic and Russia-Ukraine war. He asserted that the government is not in a position to wait for the economy to improve. There are many problems in terms of policy and procedure which have caused disruption in work due to the lack of coordination between agencies, Minister Rijal said. He also said that industrialists are suffering more from such problems. From the same programme, Minister Rijal also urged the Prime Minister to solve the liquidity crisis and high-interest rates. The private sector and the government should move together to solve various problems caused by complicated rules, and policies that are unfriendly towards the private sector, he said. He lamented that a ministry does not take care of files received from other ministries. Further, he informed that although the MoICS has made arrangements for government agencies to buy domestic products at any cost, this system has not come into effect yet.  He stressed the need for collaboration and cooperation between the government and private sector to lead the country to prosperity.
