Tourism business gains momentum in Kanchenjunga region

PHUNGLING: The tourism business in Kanchenjunga region is gradually coming to its previous state with the increased number of tourists arriving in recent months. A total of 439 tourists from different countries visited the region in the past four months, according to a report. Tourism activities in the region remained almost nil after the Covid 19 infection subsided. Secretary at Kanchenjunga Conservation and Management Council Office, Man Kumar Limbu, said that the tourism entrepreneurs were excited after seeing the increased number of visitors in recent months as tourism is a significant source of income for them. Currently, more than 50 big and small hotels are in operation on Kanchenjuga trekking route. Singi Namjong Hotel established with an investment of more than Rs 70 million is offering services from Gyalpa village of Phaktanglung Rural Municipality-6 in Taplejung district while four other hotels having more than Rs 10 million investment each is also in operation. Hotelier Pema Sherpa from Ghunsa in Taplejung said the arrival of tourists has made the entrepreneurs hopeful of their business although the pandemic time was disappointing for them. Two trekking routes are used to reach the Kanchenjunga base camp. The visitors gain access to the base camp along the Sirijangha Rural Municipality in Taplejung through Ganesh Chowk of Panchthar district to climb Mt Kanchenjuga, the third highest peak in the world. Likewise, the Kanchenjunga base camp can be reached using the trail along the Phaktanglung after landing at Suketar Airport in the district. By RSS READ ALSO:
