‘Fair Trade Trade Fair’ takes place in Lalitpur

KATHMANDU: Fair Trade Group Nepal held ‘Fair Trade Trade Fair’ in Pulchowk, Lalitpur on Saturday, June 11. Deputy Mayor of Lalitpur Metropolitan City, Manjali Shakya, and Chairman of Fair Trade Group Nepal, Sunil Chitrakar, jointly inaugurated the fair held at Yak Palace in Pulchowk. The fair held with Slogan ‘Be Fair, Buy Fair’ was held from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm. [gallery columns="1" link="file" size="full" ids="24920,24912,24911,24921,24915"] The main attraction of the fair was Artisan Live Demonstrations where artists demonstrated the making of pottery items and weaving carpets. The event had ‘Make your own card’ section for kids. The fair had a total of 20 stalls that featured handicraft items and a food stall. [gallery columns="1" link="file" size="full" ids="24913"] One of the stalls set up by Rajkumari Chaudhary shared that she started making Moonj products a year ago which is now supported by fair trade. Likewise, Beauty for Ashes Nepal featured handmade jewellery at the event. The organisation has been working with survivors of sexual violence and marginalised communities. [gallery columns="1" link="file" size="full" ids="24914"] Kanchanjunga Tea Estate showcased tea produced in the country. The company, Nepal’s first certified tea producer, was established by Dipak Prakas Baskota 40 years ago. Currently, they have 30 to 40 different flavours of tea marketed by Baskota Group. Around 90% of their products are exported to Europe, the USA, Japan, Australia and China.
