KATHMANDU: An aircraft of Fly Dubai which reportedly caught fire upon taking off from Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu has now safely flown towards Dubai. Immediately after taking off from the airport, there was a loud noise and a flash of fire was seen on the plane, according to TIA. Fire tenders were then arranged at the airport. There was a technical glitch in the engine of the plane en route from Kathmandu to Dubai. According to TIA General Manager Pratap Babu Tiwari, the plane is now flying towards its destination. Shortly after taking off from the Kathmandu airport, the aircraft was held for five to seven minutes in the sky above Dhading (21,000 feet) due to engine problems. Preparations were made for an emergency landing at TIA. Tiwari said that after the ATC of the airport tower communicated with the pilot, the plane flew normally towards the destination. Initially, one of the two engines of the plane had malfunctioned but now both engines are functioning well, so the plane will land normally at the destination, TIA informed. The airport said that there were 167 passengers on board the plane. The flight was delayed for about an hour. According to Jagannath Niroula, spokesperson of Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) the plane is currently flying towards its destination under normal conditions and flights are also operating normally at the airport now. CAAN tweeted: "Fly Dubai flight number 576, (Boeing 737-800) Kathmandu to Dubai flight is normal now and proceeding to her destination Dubai as per the flight plan. Kathmandu airport operation is normal from 16:14 UTC (09:59 pm local time)."
