FNCCI, NTB to cooperate in tourism promotion

KATHMANDU: A memorandum of understanding (MoU) has been signed between the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) and Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) with the objective of cooperating in the promotion of tourism in the country. Following this agreement, the two organisations will cooperate in the promotion and development of concept of tourism industry. FNCCI President Shekhar Golchha and Tourism Board Chief Executive Officer Dhananjay Regmi signed the agreement at the FNCCI Secretariat today. Tourism Development Committee of the Federation had played a special role for this. In the mutual understanding, meetings of stakeholders in tourism development at various levels will be organised to develop the concept of emerging tourism trends which will be exchanged between the two organisations. Likewise, there will be cooperation in beautification of various international and domestic airports and improvement of services. Similarly, there will be cooperation in digital marketing of Nepali tourism, international marketing, capacity building of tourism-related stakeholders, potential tourism products (hill station, park and other tourism activities). Addressing the MoU signing ceremony, FNCCI President Golchha expressed confidence that the agreement will be a milestone in giving a new direction to the country's tourism industry. Golchha also expressed his commitment to the implementation of the MoU. On the occasion, he proposed to organise a large-scale programme soon with the participation of all tourism-related organisations for the revival of the tourism industry. He stressed the need to prepare at least a concrete action plan to move this sector forward accordingly. The FNCCI President stressed the need to focus on development of tourism infrastructure, improvement of public transport and places. He also stressed the need to take initiative towards making Bhairahawa's airport the cheapest and most accessible airport in the region. Government support is needed for this. He also suggested that Nepal should take initiative to attract quality tourists. He was of the view that emphasis should be laid on service expansion and quality improvement targeting more tourists at airport in Kathmandu. Golchha opined that Nepal-India Investment Conference to be held in Indian cities soon would feature road shows that could be utilised to promote Nepali tourism. On the occasion, NTB CEO Regmi expressed happiness over the cooperation with the private sector's umbrella organisation. He assured to take initiative to implement the suggestions put forward by the FNCCI President on Tourism Development. On the occasion, both Golchha and Regmi stressed emphasized bringing special programmes to attract Indian and Chinese tourists. Jyotsna Shrestha (Subba), chairperson of the FNCCI's  Tourism and Air Transport Committee, said that the cooperation was made to uplift the tourism industry. Gokarna Raj Awasthi, Director General of FNCCI, expressed his gratitude and committed to moving ahead with the work as per the understanding. FNCCI Vice President Dinesh Shrestha, members of Tourism and Air Transport Committee, Senior Director of NTB, Nandini Lahe Thapa, Director Maniraj Lamichhane and senior officials of FNCCI Secretariat were present on the occasion.
