Agitating transport workers called for dialogue

KATHMANDU: The government has called the agitating transport workers for dialogue, today. According to the Director General of the Department of Transport Management, Tulsai Nath Gautam, the agitating transport workers were invited to the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport at 8:00 am today to initiate dialogue on their demands. The DoTM asked all sides to restrain tolerance as solutions to all related issues can be explored through dialogue. Earlier on Monday, the agitating transport workers vandalised in Naya Buspark area in Gongabu, Kathmandu. They took to the streets, leading to clashes, vandalism and arson in the area by protesting the traffic police’s decision to hike the fine for traffic rules violations. They also vandalised the Lotse Mall situated near the Naya Buspark. Human Resource Development Chief of Lotse multipurpose company, Pankaj Malla, said that property worth millions was destroyed by vandalism and looting. The workers have demanded to scrap the exorbitant penalty amount for traffic rules violations, release of the suspended licence, provision of the physical infrastructure parking pick and drop and others. Likewise, the protestors have stolen mobile phones from the shops run in the business complex. Tensions ran high in the areas after the workers under the banners of different political parties-aligned associations staged the protests. The protestors pelted stones at the police and also set two police vans on fire this evening. Likewise, the protestors torched a temporary police beat located at Balaju Chowk, according to the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Himalaya Kumar Shrestha. As many as 10 police personnel and some protestors sustained injuries in the protest. READ ALSO:
