Transport Ministry agrees price hike for long distance routes

KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport (MoPIT) has approved price adjustment on long-route public vehicles plying across provinces. The approval was in response to the proposal of the Department of Transport Management to adjust transport fares in view of the recent price hike in petroleum products. Following this, transport fares could see 11% to 14% increment, said Namraj Ghimire, Director General of DoTM. Price adjustment will be done scientifically and technically and the final decision will be taken on Sunday. The DoTM has been preparing for auto price adjustment when there is a 5% fluctuation in prices of petroleum products, he said. The last time the government adjusted prices on public transportation was on July 12, 2021. Since then, price of diesel has increased by 34%, according to the DoTM. There are 13 indicators for price adjustment on public transport, of which changes in prices of petroleum products constitute 35% o the fare. As per the constitution, the federal government takes a decision on price adjustment on long-route transport. By RSS READ ALSO:
