Govt will assist private sector in setting up fertiliser factories: CM Rai

MORANG: Province 1 Chief Minister Rajendra Kumar Rai has said the government will provide necessary assistance if the private sector wants to set up a chemical fertiliser factory in the province. Speaking at the inaugural function of the 4th General Assembly of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) Province 1 in Biratnagar on Thursday, CM Rai expressed his commitment to assist in the establishment of the fertiliser industry to increase the agricultural production of the country. He said the government would move forward hand in hand with the private sector. In his address to the FNCCI's assembly, he remarked that the private sector has been making a great contribution to production, capital development and revenue collection. Photo: RSS[/caption] He mentioned the private sector as a partner in the three pillars of the country's economy and urged industrialists to invest saying that the law and order situation is conducive to investment. Province 1 Minister for Economic Affairs and Planning Indra Bahadur Angbo expressed his pleasure that the transitional federal and provincial budget has come with the responsibility of institutionalising federalism. He said that the entrepreneurs' movement was irresponsible regarding the budget under consideration in the parliament. He clarified that customs duty on expensive electric vehicles has been increased while the customs duty on chocolate has been decreased to control the smuggling taking place bypassing the transit point. Biratnagar Metropolitan City Mayor Nagesh Koirala said the country could not be run in a sustainable manner on the basis of remittances and revenue and suggested the government assist productive industries that use domestic raw materials. Secretary at the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Planning, Suman Dahal, said the provincial government's investment in commercial infrastructure has helped the private sector in establishing industry and trade in the region. Chief District Officer (CDO) of Morang, Kashiraj Dahal, said that mechanisation and commercialisation in the agricultural sector would increase production. He expressed his hope that the transportation train to come into operation from Bathanaha, India to Budhanagar, Biratnagar would help in industrialisation. Photo: RSS[/caption] Likewise, FNCCI Central President Shekhar Golchha expressed concern over the fact that Sunsari Morang which had been a centre of industrial area a few years ago has now dropped to the fourth position in the current situation. If the private sector is allowed to import fertilisers so that the farmers could get chemical fertilisers on time, there will be no problem at all, FNCCI President Golchha clarified. Golchha stated that the country will be facing financial challenges in the coming days, and added that the private sector has given necessary suggestions for its solution while remaining responsible to the nation.
