KATHMANDU: Founder and Chairperson of National Innovation Centre (NIC), Dr Mahabir Pun has been honoured by the University of Central Lancashire in the UK.
At a programme organised by Biz Education in the UK, Pun was honoured in recognition of his contribution to research, studies and innovation. An interaction programme was also held virtually on the occasion.
Nepali scientist Pun showed his works through video to the audiences participating in the honouring event. He shared that the Innovation Centre was set up with the support of Nepalis and foreigners. Currently, the NIC is working in over 20 sectors including drone, biomedical, agriculture, education and health.
Recently, Media9 has honoured NIC for its initiative to mitigate the challenges of the Covid 19 pandemic that has created difficult situations across the country. During the pandemic, NIC created PPE suits, helped repair ventilators and distributed more than 51,300 PPE gowns to more than 300 hospitals, primary health care centres, Corona isolation centres, and Corona testing and treatment hospitals in 58 districts of seven provinces in the country, among other notable initiatives.
Earlier, Dr pun was known for his work in applying wireless technologies to rural areas in the hilly region.
Present at the event were Nepal Education Council UK's office-bearer Basanta Nepal, Ganesh Khadka and Krishna Khanal among others.
