Skill Week 2022 concludes; four veterans honoured

KATHMANDU: Skill Week 2022 concluded on Sunday amid a remarkable gathering held in the presence of renowned entrepreneurs, government diplomats and aspirant enthusiasts. This was the third edition of Skill Week organised by Glocal After School, an entity of Glocal with an aim to collaborate with industry, educators and government to engage and promote extensive skilling opportunities and showcase emerging skills. Rajendra Pandey, Chief Minister of Bagmati Province, was the chief guest at the closing ceremony of Skill Week. Skill Week is a week packed with events, creativity, skills, inspirations, and insights. This was a week earmarked for conducting workshops related to diverse skills, skill-focused competitions, skill shows and exhibitions, the learning hub, and sessions along with several entertainment components making this an infotainment week honouring skills. To do justice to the four core pillars — Art and Culture, Tourism and Hospitality, Science and Technology, and Entrepreneurship — of skill week, this edition was held from March 21 to March 27, and different experts from these fields were invited to impart their knowledge to the curious youth. Skill Week comprised of a series of workshops, competitions, exhibitions, food and games, case study presentation, music and concerts along with fun elements. It was basically exploring the world of skills along with a fun fiesta. [gallery columns="1" link="file" size="full" ids="21430"] On the occasion, Glocal After School honoured four veterans of Art and Culture, Entrepreneurship, Tourism and Hospitality, and Science and Technology with the Nabil Skill Hero Award in presence of Anil Keshary Shah, CEO, of Nabil Bank. For the first pillar, Tourism and Hospitality, Laxman Neupane, Chairman/MD of Siddhartha Group of Hospitality was honoured with the award. Neupane has been an influential figure in the field of tourism and made it possible for several young people to join the field of hospitality. Likewise, Kiran Manandhar was honoured for his dedication to the field of Art and Culture. He has been eminent in the contemporary art scene for the past five decades in Nepal. In the Entrepreneurship category, Laxmi Sharma, Entrepreneur and Founder of Laxmi Wood Craft Udhyog was awarded for her contributions in the field of entrepreneurship and providing an ecosystem for women entrepreneurs to foster. [gallery columns="1" size="full" ids="21433"] For the Science and Technology category, Dr Sanduk Ruit, Founder and Visionary Ophthalmologist at Tilganga Institute of Ophthalmology was honoured for his efforts to restore the eyesight of over 180,000 people across Africa and Asia using small-incision cataract surgery. The Nabil Skill Hero - Sustainable Banking award was given to Eakraj Suyal from Suyal Bakhra Firm. [gallery columns="1" link="file" size="full" ids="21431,21432"] Keeping up with the legacy of welcoming the country’s most influential CEOs/entrepreneurs to inspire the enthusiastic entrepreneurial minds of the country, Glocal successfully concluded the seventh edition of ‘CEO Unplugged’ on the same day. With the main theme of ‘Today Meets Tomorrow’, six reputed entrepreneurs, two exceptional moderators, bureaucrats, and diplomats of the country marked their presence as the speakers on this year’s CEO Unplugged. More than 100 aspirants participated in this highly anticipated event to network, learn, and share their notions with the prominent entrepreneurs of the country. There were two-panel discussions, and each discussion had a different exposure to the skill ecosystem in Nepal. Both the panel discussions were able to broaden different perspectives on the entrepreneurial and skill ecosystem shaping the future of accelerated skills transformation, strategies for sustainable growth balancing priorities and their importance in the present time. The importance of skills is even more pronounced in a dynamic, globalised world as skills are a critical asset for individuals, businesses and societies. CEO Unplugged was a platform to learn from renowned CEOs as they shared their core knowledge, wisdom, strategy, and tactics in a company lifecycle which helps to gain a new perspective and discover emerging trends required to accelerate and sustain growth in skills.
