Transport workers’ unions withdraw protest

KATHMANDU: The transport workers' organisations have retracted their agitation. An understanding has been reached to take back the agitation during talks held between with the government and the transport workers' unions held at the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport today. All the protest programmes have been withdrawn following the understanding forged to address the justified demands of the workers' unions. The transport workers' organisation declared to halt public transportation in the Kathmandu Valley on Tuesday. The agreement to retract the agitation was reached following an understanding reached in course of the talks participated by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport, Narayan Kaji Shrestha, the DPM's media expert Kamal Giri said. The transport workers had carried out a protest agitation in Gongabu Buspark area on Monday, putting forth 10-point demand, including a reduction in the traffic rules violation penalty. Incidents of vandalism and arson were also reported in the course of the agitation. READ ALSO:
