KATHMANDU: The fourth edition of Himalayan Travel Mart (HTM 2023) began in Kathmandu on Tuesday.
More than 400 representatives from 25 countries are participating in the HTM 20223 organised by the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) Nepal Chapter with the support of the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Nepal Tourism Board, Nepal Airlines Corporation and others.
The event aims to promote Nepal’s tourism industry.
Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal inaugurated the HTM amid a function. Chief Executive Officer of PATA Nepal chapter, Suresh Singh Budal, shared that a special session will be held with the objective of helping the post-Covid tourism revival campaign as well as to bring Gautam Buddha and Pokhara International airports into operation actively.
Inaugurating the HTM, PM Dahal urged entrepreneurs to invest in the tourism sector without any hesitation. He also called on the world community to invest in tourism infrastructure. "The government has put the tourism sector on top priority. I call for investment in the tourism sector as it gives more results with less investment. The government is committed to facilitating the same," he said.
Stating that Nepal is a significant tourist destination in terms of natural beauty, geographical diversity, mountains, language, art, heritages and culture, he opined that country's economy could be improved by linking Nepal's tourism with economic prosperity.
PM Dahal further said HTM has become the forum for tourism promotion of Nepal as well as the Himalayan region.
Mentioning that the tourism sector, which has immense potential to increase economic growth and opportunity for employment, is the backbone of the country's economy, he said the government is committed to developing Nepal as an attractive tourism destination.
Prime Minister Dahal said the role of tourism sector will be significant to further strengthen the country's economy, adding attention of the government and political parties has been focused on economic development.
On the occasion, State Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Sushila Sirpali Thakuri, said the HTM will be useful to promote Nepal's tourism in the global market.
Secretary at the Tourism Ministry, Suresh Adhikari, opined that such tourism-related activities will be helpful for promoting Nepali tourism destinations in the global market.
Likewise, Executive Chairperson of Nepal Airlines Corporation, Yubaraj Adhikari, and Executive Chief of Nepal Tourism Board, Dhananjaya Regmi, stressed that all stakeholders should be active to make the tourism sector further dynamic by widening the partnership between the government and private sector.
The HTM 2023 will conclude on June 9.
