KATHMANDU: Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) has condemned the vandalism and looting of shops that took place following a demonstration held by transport workers and entrepreneurs in Gongabu area, Kathmandu, on Monday.
In a press statement, FNCCI asserted that everyone has the right to hold a protest and demonstration, but there is also a right for everyone to save the self and their property during riot and vandalism and demanded punishment for those involved in the incident under the pretext of protest.
The organisation of private sector has further criticised the government could not control such untoward activities on time and opined that those involved in the incident should be brought to book as soon as possible. FNCCI stated, "If the culprits of such incidents could not be brought to book as soon as possible vandalism and lootings could happen again.
FNCCI has also urged the government to arrange compensation for the businesspersons whose shops were looted.
Meanwhile, Nepal Police on Wednesday made public four persons who allegedly looted various shops at Lotse Mall in the vicinity of Naya Bus Park in Gongabu.

Organising a press conference, District Police Range, Kathmandu, paraded Chiran Regmi of Dailekh, Nabin Khadgi of Kathmandu, Sujan Khatri of Rupandehi, and Pradeep Basnet of Jhapa as the culprits involved in the incident.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Sitaram Rijal informed that the search was on for others involved in the incident. Mobile phones, chargers, recharge cards, earphones and other accessories were looted from the shops at the mall during the vandalism that took place following a demonstration held by transport workers and entrepreneurs on Monday.
